Too much rules can never ruin a great game

Like most other professional league matches the NHL too has a specified set of rules ranging from the field (or rink) the matches are played on to the kit of the player. Amongst the most important ones is the playing area or the ice rink. All NHL games should be played on surface made of ice and referred to as a rink. The rink has specific dimensions and markings and without the written permission from the NHL officials these cannot be changed. The reason for this is that it may interfere with the ice markings that the NHL officials put to help in scoring the teams. Ice logos especially like those used for advertisement and promotions can severely affect visibility if they are mixed with the official markings.

Apart from this NHL rules also specify that the ice surface should be flooded during the interval period unless otherwise specified by them. The measurements for the ice hockey rink are length – 200 feet and width – 85 feet. The corners should have rounded edges like the arc of a circle measuring 28 feet in radius. Boards and glass make up the wall of the rink above the ice level extending between 40 to 48 inches not an inch more not an inch less
